DIY T-Shirt Bracelets
Summer may be coming to an end, but summer bracelets are still in style! Here’s how you can make T-Shirt Bracelets in no time at all!
Supplies
- Old Cotton T-Shirts
- Craft Fabric Glue*
- Hot Glue Gun*
*The glues are totally optional, it all depends on how you want to fasten your bracelets.
STEP ONE – Prepare your T-Shirts
About a year ago I had the idea to make rugs out of t-shirst. So I raided my closet and went to Goodwill to get all these colored shirts. Well…. the rugs did not go well… If anyone has advice on how to make t-shirt rugs let me know…
Anyways! I made a TON of t-shirt string balls. This is the first step you need to do to complete for your t-shirt bracelets.
Lay your t-shirt out flat.
Cut off the bottom hem
Cut the shirt width wise into strips. I made mine about 3/4 of an inch. Since t-shirt material stretches really easily, this process is very forgiving. You can pretty much eyeball it and you will be ok. The bigger the strips the chunkier the bracelet.
*TIP – Whatever length you are making your strips, that is the amount of space you should leave at the end of your strips. If you leave too small of an area then your t-shirt rope will be uneven in width.
Once your shirt is cut onto strips, separate it from the top of the shirt. Lay your strips out so you can easily cut the strips into rope.

Make diagonal cuts to connect the strips. Your first cut will be from the end of the shirt to the first slit. Your next cut will be from one slit to the next. Continue this process until you have cut all the strips.

Gently pull your t-shirt strips so they form strings and roll them into a ball. Repeat this process with other colored t-shirts.
STEP TWO – Braid your Bracelets
Here is where you can get creative. Use any combination of colors and numbers of strings to braid your bracelets. I did a traditional 3 string braid, a 4 string braid, fishtail, and loose strings. I liked experimenting with different color combos and types of braids to make this look. The fabric glue and hot glue was used to help secure the ends. Some of them I tied off, others I used the glue to secure. When making bracelets with multiple strings, using the glue to secure gives a smaller “lump” at the end. However, I did notice these were less secure.

This is how to make a t-shirt bracelet!
